Some of the pictures that were taken during the launching :
“Good morning teachers and students. It is an honour for me today to
talk to you about the English language. One thing for sure, English is very
important indeed. It is an International language and it’s spoken by more
people than any other languages. If you don’t try, you will surely miss the
good part of the world. People who can speak English will be respected by
others. Not to mention better job opportunities.
And as for us, we have been learning English for years, and still many
of the students are weak in this subject. The results of past years
examinations are not encouraging. Realizing this problem, English Language
Panel of SMK Seri Paka has come up with a programme called DR1P (Drop
everything and Read 1 Page) to improve students’ performances in English. This
reading programme will also help to widen students’ vocabulary and to write
good essays.
As students, you must play your part. The opportunities are there for
you, so, make sure you take them. I hope this programme will be one of the
platforms for you to improve your English. Without wasting any more time, I now
officially launch the 2013 DRIP Programme.
Thank you.
Let me begins my speech today with a saying, “reading is to the mind
what exercise is to the body.” What does it mean? Well, in order to stay fit
and healthy, we are encouraged to do regular exercises, such as going for
aerobic classes, jogging and cycling. But don’t forget, we should also exercise
our minds, and the best way to do so is by reading.
We are very lucky because we have many
English language media like books, newspapers, movies and television. We should
take advantages of these chances to read and listen to English. But how many of
us here read English materials? Not many.
One of the reasons why
I
hope this programme will be the best platform for students to improve your
English. Without wasting any more time, I now declare the launching of 2013
DRIP Programme.”
